Staff rooms...

What is it about school staff rooms? You find 35mm slide rolls, books and resources from the 70s (Connexions!!) and barriers that would probably be banned as inhuman in a prison.

Of course resources are tight and because ideas come n go you're never sure what to keep, but even so...

In education, everything is escaping from its boxes: subjects, timetables, classes... Surely we should let the staff out too?

Hi Stephen

when you were speaking at the ict conference in Bolton back in July, you mentioned this, do you see primary schools aswell as secondary?

I'm reminded of an initiative by old friend David Puttnam who was horrified to find milk in a staffroom fridge with individual's names written on the cartons and he instigated a really good "redesign of staffrooms" initiative.

But it is interesting to see now how many schools are closing their staff rooms ("we are all learners here, so why would we have a room for the old ones?" etc.

So maybe the time to worry has passed anyway....

Maybe.

oh and "yes" I do see primary as well as secondary - of course! Lately I've been asking a lot of secondary students what they miss about primary - last week one said that he missed "touching things" - which I thought was really sad.

And btw the all through school I'm lead sponsor for in Portland is a 0 - 21+ school, interestingly enough...
